Who found out that nothing can capture a heart like a melody can? Well, whoever it was, I’m a fan
– ABBA
I LOVE to sing. In the car, in a bar, on a plane, in the right hand turning lane you can catch me belting a tune. I like all different kinds of music too. This was a hard list to curate, but here’s my Top Tunes in every genre*.
*Genre is according to iTunes.
Alternative:
In college, I was sitting in class and I had this song stuck in my head. I like to dabble in a bit of calligraphy, so I started writing out the lyrics and the name of the song. As I was writing “Josh” with all these hearts and pretty things around it with these beautiful lyrics, I get a tap on the shoulder. THE GUY SITTING (named Josh) GOES, “Thinking about me?”
I wanted to die.
Every time I play this song at a party or in the car everyone makes a funny face and says it’s weird. I don’t know if that’s why I love this song so much or if it’s because it’s an absolute JAM. Either way, Rill Rill gets me going.
Worship:
I don’t even have to give a description why I love this so much.
This song got me back into worship music. Really. It’s beautiful and every time I sing along I feel closer to God more than anything.
Country:
I have listened to this 2000+ on iTunes..
So beautiful. Also this song is nice.
Dance / Electronic:
This was the first song I ever walked down a catwalk to.
This song always reminds me of Summer 2017. I played it constantly for my group of friends while we were living our best lives. None of us knew that would be the last summer we were all together, but we didn’t care. We lived for every moment and this song embodies that.
Hip-Hop / Rap:
I have a HUGE crush on Marshall Mathers. 8 Mile is one of my favorite movies. I can’t get enough of this guy. I couldn’t really pick a favorite, but if I had to be in a rap battle I would choose this one.
What is better than Bon Iver? How about Kanye West with Bon Iver.
Indie / Indie Rock:
Ingried Michaelson was the reason I decided to learn how to play guitar. This was one of the first songs I learned to play.
“And at once I knew I was not magnificent” God is greater than me, than anything. This song is a great reminder of that.
Musicals:
I always wanted to sing this with Jesse. I’m corny I know.
This musical broke my heart. This song broke those pieces of heart. I listen to this musical on a regular basis and I always start with the last song.
Pop:
This genre has 3 songs. My top 3 gals, I couldn’t choose between them. These women molded me into the drama queen I am today.
Britney doesn’t like this song, but I don’t care. It’s my favorite. FAVORITE. I got to see her once at Planet Hollywood in Orlando and I BAWLED. She has been my girl since day one. First CD. First Karaoke. First Everything. I even had that purple blow up chair. I can’t pick one song I love the most, but this one definitely has a special place in my heart.
I am googoo for Gaga. My mom took me to see her for my 24th birthday at her Enigma show in Las Vegas. It was amazing. I cried. She cried. We cried. She danced her heart out and me, the gays, and Celine Dion ate up every single minute of it.
MY MAIN CHICK. I could go on and on about my obsession with Miley. Actually.. stay tuned for a blog. Anyway, this is where I got my Love Marley Party from if you haven’t figured that out already. I went to the Bangerz concert in 2014 in Tulsa and not to be dramatic but it honestly changed my life. I couldn’t control myself I was crying so hard. My idol. Dancing, singing, crying, living her BEST life. Ok, ok, I’ll stop now.
R&B / Soul:
RIP to one of the greatest. 27 Club took you too soon sweet angel. When Amy went mainstream with this album I was young, but I knew I love it. I could feel all the emotion in this album and I fell in love with R&B like I never had before.
Did I sit in my car and cry the first time I hear this song? You bet. Did I spend all summer after my first real break-up playing this and feeling like it was written just for me? Yup.
Rock:
Bruce is a babe and I love him. He’s my rockstar version of Eminem. Fight me.
I love this movie. It’s shameless and the whole album BOPS.
Well, there they are. My top tunes in each genre. Of course, I love more songs by each of these artists individually, but these are my favorites by them. These songs have gotten me through the good and the bad. Through childhood and adulthood. These songs are always on my playlists and are the top played on my iTunes.
Take a listen.
